Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA -- Studies show the divorce rate among university students who married in the past five or six years is below 2 percent, which is very low compared to the countryˈs average rate, said director of Khorasan Razaviˈs Headquarters for Marriage of University Students.

Thursday edition of the English language newspaper Iran Daily quotes Mehdi Gholami Moqaddam as saying that establishing links with the students who married in the past academic year is the top priority of the headquarters and promoting marriage among single students is the second priority.
The official said 3,000 young couples have so far participated in programs organized by the headquarters.
ˈSeveral training workshops on topics, including successful marriage, strategies for a happy life, anger control and family economy, have been organized for married university students,ˈ he said.
Moqaddam added that the headquarters has held two training workshops on love management and selecting the right spouse for single students.
He said a festival themed ˈTraveling Together to Heavenˈ has been held by the headquarters for married university students.
Moqaddam also said the headquarters has also held a book-reading contest, online tests and various festivals for unmarried students.
Based on statistics released by State Welfare Organization, last year, 14-15 percent of marriages ended in divorce in the first year of marriage, with the provinces of Tehran and Alborz registering the largest number of divorces.
Iran’s divorce rate has jumped from 12 percent in 2007 to 21 percent at present. Data also show that one in three marriages in the capital ends in divorce.
Islam has urged couples to solve problems associated with their married life and avoid divorce as long as possible to raise happy children and build a healthy society.
Although divorce is not forbidden in Islam and has been considered a solution for couples whose relationships have reached a dead-end, it has been described as the most reprehensible thing permitted because it can lead to numerous social disorders.
